Hello friends! Wow, it’s been a while since I posted and I thought sharing our Third Grade Curriculum choices was the perfect way to get back into the swing of things. For some reason I always think the summer will be my chance to slow down and “catch up” yet it typically turns out to be packed to the brim! Continue reading
“You homeschool? Ok, but um….what exactly do you DO all day?”
We LEARN! I know my Lil’ Lizard is the student, but I think it was Mama who learned the most last year. So far I only have a year and a half under my belt, but I thought sharing last year’s struggles and solutions could be of use to someone, if only for future reference for myself ;). Part of the steep learning curve to homeschooling, was finding a school calendar, daily/weekly schedules and general routines that worked for us.
Dear Amazing Readers,
It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity to blog, first computer issues, then a garage sale that TOOK…… FOR……..EVER, and it all just rolled into one thing after another. I don’t know why, but summer “break” always seems busier than the rest of the year. I’m hoping with the return of the school year we’ll get back into some semblance of a schedule, which should let me get back to you lovely peeps!
Until then, know that all is well as Lil’ Lizard is home safe from his month away, and Eager Explorer will be celebrating his first birthday this month!! We are all gearing up for the new school year, Lil’ Lizard will be in second grade (ish) and we’ve found an awesome co-op I’ll be tutoring in. Although now would be the time to finally type up my Lessons Learned segments, I know that personally, I need to start back up with the Daily Bread series. One observation I made last year, was that if we want to be a living tree to offer nourishment and shelter to our families, we’ve got to be PLANTED in the Living Water of the Word. Otherwise, I’ll be running on empty and no one needs a cranky wife, mother, teacher….or self to deal with.
Thank you so much everyone for your interest and support for what happens here at Grace Within the Race. I had to stop and take a water break to catch my breath, but I hope to be back on track soon!
Blessings and Love to you!
Although it’s not quite Thursday, I’m Thankful to be linking again with Marsha for Thankful Thursdays. Even if I don’t get a chance to post it right away, pausing to consider all the Lord had done each week has been a major blessing. I’ve noticed that the worries and burdens of today often seem so urgent and upsetting that it’s easy to lose sight of yesterday’s miracles. He is the same God, yesterday, today and forever. So with this post I’d like to share my thanks for a few answered prayers.
Woo Hoo! WE SURVIVED OUR FIRST YEAR OF HOMESCHOOLING!!! Wow, talk about a steep learning curve. Perhaps my first year homeschooling felt tougher than it had to be because I was also juggling a newborn, but looking back it was all absolutely worth it. 🙂 I’ve shared with you some things I wish I had prepared BEFORE my first year, but now I’d like to take a look at some of the specifics that seemed to work for us, and those we’ll be ditching as we begin again in the fall.
It’s that time of year, :'( …..the time when as the primary custodial parent I must bid my son adieu for the summer visitation with his biological father. I know I’m not the only one losing my baby for the summer, but the normalcy of the situation doesn’t remove my concerns, fears and tears. Continue reading
When I started brainstorming for this post, the prompt “I find joy in….” from Tuesdays @Ten, took me to a lot of deep and good places. I quickly realized if I am ever going to finish in time to actually link up, I’d better switch gears and take the more light hearted approach. Of course the joy of the Lord is my strength and He blesses me with family and motherhood and LIFE! For this today’s post though, I must say that I take joy in the simple victories in life.
It’s the little things that truly spark joy in my heart sometimes, and thankfully God grants us such opportunities everywhere we go. Without further ado, here are 3 examples of tiny random victories that put an extra spring in my step and a smile of my face. 😀 Continue reading
Life is hard. You’re probably thinking, “Ok lady, What else is new?” Although it may not seem like a grand revelation, in many ways I think it is one of the most important. If we aren’t careful, it’s easy to find ourselves in one of two camps…..discouraged because we can’t seem to keep it together or overly confident in our ability to “handle” our circumstances. At the root, both camps roast marsh mellows around an oh-so cozy fire fueled by nothing other than pride itself. If I take a hard look at my own heart, I realize I’ve unrolled my sleeping bag more than I’d like to admit in one of camp or another. So on this Thankful Thursday, I’m praising God for His forgiveness, His grace and His Faithfulness to help me learn to dwell in HIM.
How I have enjoyed linking with Marsha at Thankful Thursdays these past weeks! Initially, as an exhausted, slightly stressed out, new homeschooler with a teething baby, I didn’t know where to begin with my thanks because I felt like such a failure. With a few weeks under my belt of giving God the glory for the little things in my life, I’m still incredibly sleep deprived and drowning in clutter mixed with insecurities….but you know what? I’m still struggling to know what to write, but this time it’s because I’m overwhelmed with gratitude as I see HIS HAND in everything!
We all look forward to summer as a time to sit back and relax, but somehow our schedule missed the memo. We’re still carving out time to really connect with family, but between the graduations, weddings, birthdays and other summer activities, we’re booked! It is for all these joyous occasions I am thankful along with the health and happiness to enjoy them. As I sat down to highlight one of them I realized that it is not one event that stuck out in my mind this past week, but one person…my absolutely wonderful and incredibly handsome husband.
